I've been my own best customer: I met my husband Jack through Concerned Singles! After a six-month long-distance courtship between California and Massachusetts, by snail mail and telephone, we met – already in love – married, and had twelve wonderful years together until his untimely death in 2002. So I know exactly what it's like to send a hopeful message to a wonderful-sounding stranger; to bite your nails waiting for a reply; to work on a relationship before you've even met. I also know exactly what it's like to lose a beloved mate and to wonder whether or when to start over. When I helped to found Concerned Singles, back in 1984, introduction services were gaining respectability as a means of seeking a partner. Everything was done by mail. Since then, our membership has grown from a mere handful to hundreds of members, not just in the States but around the globe. We launched the CS website in 1997 to reach an even wider audience. But we've never lost sight of our original philosophy: that a personals service should never be impersonal. That’s why we continue to provide caring, individualized attention to our members. Although we protect your privacy with a membership code, you're more than just a number to us: you're a real person (probably someone I'd like to get to know myself). It seems to me that the more alienated and alienating our culture becomes, the more essential it is to keep technology from interfering with people-to-people contact. That's why I'm available for consultation, encouragement, and problem solving. If you call me, you won't be frustrated by an interminable canned menu of layer upon layer of numbered choices.
